The next train at Platform 2 is the 9:27, 85-year-old woman from Brockenhurst
An 85-year-old woman was incredibly lucky escape with her life after taking a wrong turn at a level crossing continuing to drive 50 yards along a main railway line.
Instead of driving her silver Renault Clio straight over the railway lines at the level crossing on the A337 through Brockenhurst, New Forest, Hants, it is believed she became confused and turned left and ended up on the tracks, after which it is thought that she panicked and continued to drive a further 50 yards along the railway line towards Brockenhurst train station.
British Transport Police and Hampshire Police were alerted of the incident and were scrambled to the scene at 9.35 am on the Friday 27th January. Upon arrival officers climbed down onto the tracks to extract the distressed woman and her passenger to safety - both were unharmed.
The busy main rail line between Dorset and London Waterloo had to be closed for almost two hours while the car was removed from the tracks by crane.
What her 20 year old grandson (who was in the passenger seat at the time) was thinking when she drove onto the railway line, and then continued to travel along it remains to be heard.
